To Town Residents, Business Owners and Visitors,
I hope this letter finds you well. As we make our way through the third week of April and the sixth week of Oneida County’s State of Emergency, we may be starting to see the outcome from our hard work from social distancing. Early numbers are indicating we may be starting be on the downward slope of the curve. More time will be needed to determine if this is truly the case and I would like to urge you all to continue to social distance, continue to sanitize and continue to wash our hands. Keep up the good work!
I would like to thank all of the business owners and residents who have stopped by our department with meals, snacks and beverages for our firefighters. This truly does help out our college bunk in firefighters, as they all have decided to stay here in Maynard, protecting our families during these unpredictable times.
You may see our Maynard Firefighters wearing face masks while out in the town. We are following Governor Cuomo’s Executive Order regarding face masks. Our goal, as always, is to keep everyone in our community and our members safe and healthy. The Maynard Fire Department is still participating in daily phone calls, videoconferences and county/state briefings. We obtain the latest information on the ongoing epidemic and adjust operations and planning as necessary.
Again, I want to assure all of you that your Maynard Fire Department is here ready to respond. For the latest information on COVID–19 please visit the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention website at https://www.cdc.gov/index.htm
Stay home, wash your hands and help stop the spread.

Maynard Volunteer Fire Department would like to thank Utica Mack Inc. for their donation of surgical masks for our First Responders and allowing us to be safe while keeping the community safe. We appreciate your donation and your community spirit.

Yesterday afternoon, Maynard and Whitesboro firefighters responded to Rt 49 WB to rescue a goat 🐐 from the Marcy SUNY Parkway overpass. After Whitesboro chased the goat off the overpass, firefighter Reid from the Maynard Fire Department was able to chase the goat down and capture it! The goat was then safely returned to its owner.

The members of the Maynard FD want to ensure the public that we are all working closely together to have plans in place to handle the EMS needs of our community during this Coronavirus outbreak. We are meeting regularly to discuss resources, manpower, equipment, and supplies. We are in constant communication with the Oneida County Department of Health, NYS Department of Health, NYS Homeland Security and the CDC. Additionally, we are working with Oneida County Emergency Services for guidance and medical direction.
If you are experiencing cold and flu symptoms we strongly recommend contacting the call center or your primary care physician.
It is imperative that we do our best to keep our local fire departments available for true emergencies which will continue to happen on a daily basis. Multiple non-emergent EMS calls could significantly diminish the public safety resources in our community. If you or a family member are having a serious emergency and are in distress, do not hesitate to dial 911. If you are experiencing cold and flu symptoms and or have concerns about potential coronavirus exposure, please your primary care physician.
